Donald R. Pursell

For the last 21 years he has been solely known simply as “Grandaddy”, but way before that, he was a son to Hubert and Opal Pursell, brother to 10 siblings, wonderful husband to Marcia Pursell for 45 years and the best dad in the world to Donald Pursell, JR and Suzanne Muller.

Don touched the lives of everyone he met from the years he spent in the United States Navy to being totally comfortable on elementary school field trips and hangin’ with the high-schoolers – all in the name of helping his grandkids: Brian, Joseph, Kasey and Dylan Muller.

Anyone who ever knew Don would tell you that he was a special presence whenever he walked in the room. It was not uncommon for him to ask you if you could spot him a couple bucks (joking, of course) or if you were going to “eat all that”.

Don loved his family. Whether it be spending time with his always abundant brothers and sisters, going out to eat with his son or any of the thousands of things that he did with and for the grandkids-always with the love of his life, Marcia by his side.

There will never be a man more loved or missed than the man most lovingly refered to by many more people than just the four grandchildren as Grandaddy!

Don was strong in his beliefs and we are comforted by the fact that he has gone home to be with the Lord. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life on Friday, February 22 at 11:00 at Horizons Community Church 14120 N. 79th Ave., Peoria, AZ. 85381 followed by a military saltue at the AZ National Cemetery 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix, AZ. 85024

My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time. I have fond memories of Don and the entire Purcell family from PVHS. They are great memories and I am blessed to have had the Purcell ‘kids’ in my life.

  2. Cheryl Baird McGuire says:

Uncle Don will surely be missed and was truly loved by all. He had a way of always making each and every one of us feel “special”!! I always loved his statement: “I can dish it out, but I can’t take it” and boy could he dish it out!! No matter how bad he felt, he could always still make us laugh!! I will never forget you, Uncle Don. I love you!!

My heart breaks for Aunt Marcia, Donny, Suzanne and the grandkids – they were Uncle Don’s world and Uncle Don was their world!! Sending you hugs and prayers for these days ahead!! I love you guys!!

  3. Lisa Weber says:

Uncle Don always had a way of cracking some kind of joke and made us laugh..even while he was sick. He always loved my kids no matter how ornery (I think he liked the more ornery) I will miss him so much!!! Even though I hate that he left us, I am happy my Dad has his brother with him in a peaceful, pain free Heaven (along with his Mamma, Daddy, Craig, Jerry and Bobby). Love You Forever,
