Florance Unger

FLORANCE M. UNGER

July 17, 1924 – October 17, 2013

Florance Weber Unger was born July 17, 1924 at home in south Loveland, CO and died October 17, 2013 in Surprise, AZ. She was the third child of Henry and Christina (Uhrich) Weber. They were farmers and the whole family worked on the farm thinning beets, shocking grain, and putting up hay. The family enjoyed each other and on many evenings played Parcheesi, rummy,  and Chinese Checkers. Florance attended Washington School and graduated from Loveland High School in 1942.

On November 17, 1942, Florance married Allen Unger. Allen was in the Army Air Corp and had just graduated from flying school. Their adventures in the military took them to AZ, NE, SC, NY, CA, TX and CO. When Allen left for overseas duty, Florance returned to Loveland. Allen was a POW during the last eight months of WWII. Allen’s last assignment was to manage the Officers Club at Lowry Field. During this time their daughter Kathy was born at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver. Following his military service, Allen felt called into the ministry. Polly was born in Ohio where her dad was attending Seminary.

Florance was Allen’s greatest supporter and partner at each church they served. It was obvious that she was inspired by her love of God. Florance was very active in the United Methodist Women (Esther Circle), choir, Sunday School, youth services, and Vacation Bible School. She also took great pride in serving delicious dinners for all the new church members.

As a homemaker, Florance was beyond compare. She was devoted to her family in every way possible. Her home was happy and joyful. She was very thankful for and proud of her girls.

Florance was a life member of of the AX POW group of North Eastern Colorado and served as their adjutant. She was a member of PEO for 41 years, Chapter GC in Loveland.
