Lemont Landrum

Lemont was the second child born to Estella (Griffin) and John Landrum in Glen Allan, Mississippi.  The Landrum family moved to Phoenix Arizona, where Lemont attended Percy L. Julian Middle School and graduated from South Mountain High School, in the class of 1970.   While attending South Mountain, Lemont lettered in wrestling and was a Junior Olympic and State champion.   Lemont attended Arizona State University, where he majored in FitnessEducation.   Lemont “crossed over”, becoming a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Phi Iota Chapter, Spring 1971.  During the final phase of the Viet Nam War, Lemont was inducted into military service.   He took basic training in The United States Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.   He continued his military service in the Air Force Reserves in Phoenix as a cook, which was a coincidence that perfectly matched his personal interests.  Lemont had many talents, hobbies and interests throughout his life. During his late teens he collected and restored classic Chevys; he could always be relied upon to help family and friends in need of a mechanic.   He was highly knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects and enjoyed keeping aquariums in his home, with Angel fish, African frogs, and Tetras being some of his favorites.  Lemont will be greatly missed by his family and church family.   As second eldest in a large family, Lemont accepted responsibility for the care and guidance of younger siblings. He greatly enjoyed cooking and entertaining his son, brothers, sisters, cousins and friends; often creating special dishes for the occasions.  Lemont is preceded in Glory by his parents John, Sr. and Estella Landrum; and by his brothers Larry and Clarence.  Lemont is survived by his beloved son, Jason Landrum, Sr.; grandchildren, Jason Landrum, Jr. and Loren Landrum; his brothers Stanley, John Jr., Dwayne,Stennis, Gregory and Daryl Landrum; and his sisters Cathy Landrum, LaVerne Green, Gloria Washington, Patricia Clark, and Dorothy Williams.  Memorial Services will be at 9:00 am, Friday, November 22, 2013 at Best Funeral Services – North Central Chapel.
